I first started studying and working on oil paintings when I was 12 years old and my first post secondary education was in Fine Arts. I then went and studied architecture and today I am a licensed practicing architect. Over the almost 40 years since my first oil painting I have continued to enjoy experimenting with this artistic medium.
My love for dogs has moved me into dog portraiture when In 1986 I got two Golden Retrievers as gift, and they were my pride and joy. As I was studying at University they stayed with my parents so they truly were the whole families dogs. On their one year anniversary we had a reunion with all their siblings and parents. During that reunion I received what you might say was my first commission. As I started my architecture career my paintings become less frequent, mostly they were gifts to friends who visited my home and liked my work.
Even though I am still engaged in my architecture practice these past few years I have found myself dedicating more time to painting and as a result some commissions. My excitement and enthusiasm in painting dogs portraits comes from a great love of these pets, the process of creating and the thrill of seeing the image emerge on the canvas and seeing that excitement transferred to the dog loves who's portrait I am creating.
I never saw my painting as a means to income but as I transition from a career in the professional design field I now see it as an opportunity and move forward by reaching back into my painting and drawing gifts I am hoping to continue to create paintings and drawings that are worthy of my admiration of these companions.
